Graduate Portfolio

Students will create a professional planning portfolio specific to their individual post-baccalaureate plans.

This includes the three basic components listed below:

A. Professional resume or CV

B. Personal statement

A. Professional Resume

A resume is designed to showcase previous employment and the skills utilized during those committments.  Whereas an "Curriculum Vita" leans more towards academic accomplishements and civic responsibilities and may also include descriptions of grades or important assignments accomplished during your college experience. There are many internet and university resources available to help you create a resume or CV that reflects your own personal style.

The University Writing Center and UAB Career Services offer many online and in office resources to assist students with writing a personal resume or CV. It is highly advisable that students take advantage of the services offered when constructing this document. A well designed resume or CV will be necessary for both graduate school and job applications.

B. Personal Statement

A personal statement is designed to describe your interests and career goals in terms of the knowledge, skills and characteristics that make you stand out as a graduate school applicant. It is also a good place to discuss your personal experiences and values as they apply to your future life goals.
